Cogswell – Don’t Mess With Our Jewlz

If you haven’t had the chance to get yourself familiar with this Arizona band, you’ll want to make sure you do. They are a new three piece band that brings with them a respect for all of the great music from days of ol’. The rythms Adam lays down are complimented by the nothing less than beautiful melodies emitting from Irish Mike (The Madman)’s 12 string & mandolin. To top it all off, Jewlz is one of the few drummers that we can hear today who remember that the magic is not necessarily in how hard you beat the skins. She actually brings out the slap sticks (Brushes) for a couple numbers in the live shows. As far as classification, I don’t know exactly where they fit, but I’d call them Modern Blues. All songs are inspired by true events, & the music you find on this album is undeniably heartfelt. I would recommend this jewel to everyone I know. If that’s not enough for you then fans of Angry Johnny & the Killbillies, Everlast, and good down home ol’ school blues will be kicking themselves in the ass for not having this release in their collection sooner. The CD may only have 9 songs, but you can let it spin for hours at a time and love every minute of it; I do. “Don’t Mess with Our Jewlz” is a perfect reminder to the world once again that R&B means Rhythm & Blues…No Rap and Bullshit here!

Rating: ★★★★½

Man, Shane-Dig was awesome this year! It’s an official annual thing now! Thanks to Shane (Dick Wiggler & the Cattleguards) for making it all happen!

Also, I am doing shows again actively here in San Antonio, so hit me up if you ever need help with a good show in SA…

Keep Spreading the disease, people!
